From Biters to Belgians

The Saga of Liverpool’s strike force has proved to be something of an epic in recent years. After a long period of what can only be described as mediocrity, the 2013/2014 season delivered endless excitement and goals galore as the potent new attack hit the target again and again. Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling were running riot and the future looked decided red. Continue reading

Online Shopping and Niche retailers

I paid a visit to a local retail park at the weekend and was extremely frustrated to find that so many other people had decided to do the same thing that the car park was grid locked. Getting a space was a major triumph, getting out again was a serious drama. I was only there because my partner needed to pick up a car part at Halfords and I had thought I might take a wander around TK Maxx whilst he made his purchase. Never again! Continue reading

A New Season for Retailers

April brought good weather to the UK and the change in temperature didn’t just lift our spirits it also seems to have sent many of us rushing to the shops. The sunshine sparked a period of increased sales for many shops and there is more than one reason for this. Continue reading

The Football Fan’s Bedroom

As a teenager I was fortunate enough to be given two rooms in the house all to myself. My parents decorated my bedroom and created a very girly space but they let me loose on my living room. This was a decision that they promptly regretted! Rather than undertaking an elaborate paint job I decided to cover every inch of all four walls with pictures of my favourite footballers and eventually the room became something of a museum dedicated to Liverpool Football Club. Dressing for Action

Keeping fit is vital for your health and well-being but does require a significant investment in the appropriate clothing. Your sporting attire then has to be stored somewhere putting more pressure on your wardrobe space and then there is all that additional washing. There is no getting away from it, you can’t really decide to wear those sweaty tops for a few days before consigning them to the machine. Continue reading

How Many Sports Bras Do You Need?

I think most women find that once they have tried a sports bra they never want to be without one again. The trouble is that one is rarely enough if you lead an active lifestyle. On the other hand investing in several bras requires a significant outlay so how many sports bras do you need? Continue reading

Walking Distance

A quick walk to the supermarket the other day really got me thinking. I was just popping over there to pick up a couple of things when I started contemplating how lucky I was to live so close to the store. Lucky, that is, apart from the constant traffic and a fairly unappealing view. Tesco Extra isn’t exactly the Grand Canyon! However, being walking distance from the supermarket does make it easy to pick up all the things you inevitably forget to buy on your weekly shop.  There I was thinking about this when I started to wonder what the phrase walking distance actually means. Continue reading

Keeping Fit into Old Age

Many years ago when I was a teenager I was walking in the Alps and felt embarrassed when a group of hikers came past me at a  fast rate of knots. I was labouring my way up a steep gradient whilst they skipped past me with barely a hint of heavy breathing. What fascinated me about this incident was the fact that none of this spritely group appeared to under 80 years of age! Continue reading

Temptations

Like many people of a certain age I have to watch my weight very carefully. I only have to look at the wrong food and I can feel my waistband expanding.  I am studious about what and how much I eat. I run 5 times each week for at least 4 miles and I also play badminton and make regular visits to the indoor ski centre. On the whole things are going well but I am constantly amazed at how many temptations get thrown in my path. It is like walking a tightrope every day and I can easily understand why so many people struggle to lose weight. Continue reading

The Changing Room Dilemma

398px-WLANL_-_Cybergabi_-_Lockers

If you are playing sport then you are limited in what personal items you can take with you. That wasn’t such a problem in the old days as most people’s valuables would be confined to their wallet and car keys and kids wouldn’t even have those. These days, however, it is a different story with the proliferation of mobile phones, tablets, iPods and other gadgets. Most people have quite a lot to carry and also to lose which presents a dilemma. Do you take your things with you and if you don’t where do you put them? Continue reading
